Movie of the Week - Jack the Giant Slayer

If you enjoyed the fairy tale "Jack and the Beanstalk" while growing up, then you might want to check out this movie when it hits theaters March 1st. Jack the Giant Slayer is a fantasy/adventure film loosely based on the fairy tales "Jack and the Beanstalk" and "Jack the Giant Killer". Directed by Bryan Singer, this film stars talented actors including Nicholas Hoult, Eleanor Tomlinson, and Stanley Tucci.

The film begins when Jack (Nicholas Hoult), a young farmer, accidentally opens a gateway to the Giant world and now the Giants want to take over their world and claim it as their own. This reignites the ancient war between humans and giants.

Now Jack must fight against the Giants not only to rescue the princess (Eleanor Tomlinson) who has been kidnapped, but also to save the kingdom and his own life from the Giants.

  1. I can't help but wonder how many more movie ideas are left before they just completely run out of classic literature to adapt. It started with full stories like Sherlock Holmes and Sleepy Hollow but we're slowly coming down to short stories and fables like Jack and the Beanstalk and Hansel and Gretel. In any case, great write up!
